Kensington

This busy and affluent district is a winning combination of upmarket shops, world-class museums, concert halls, well-regarded restaurants and desirable property. Some of London’s most expensive streets and garden squares are located here, especially the Regency houses around Holland Park. Other residential pockets comprise Edwardian and Victorian terrace houses, many now divided into smart, sought-after apartments overlooking private squares.

Kensington High Street runs through the heart of the district and is where the shops and restaurants are clustered. The street has a colourful past: for decades, Kensington Market with its clothes shops and hairdressers was the heart of youth culture, and the legendary boutique Biba was the place to head for groovy threads in the 1960s. The fashionable still flock to the area not just to buy clothes but to enjoy many new and well-established restaurants and bars, including the famous Grade II listed Roof Gardens. Kensington Church Street which connects it to Notting Hill Gate is the road to head for antiques and art for your interior whilst Kensington Palace Gardens remains one of the areas most desirable addresses.

For residential property, the roads between Holland Park and Kensington Church Street, including Phillimore Gardens, Stafford Terrace and Argyll Road remain very popular. Closer to Notting Hill, Campden Hill Square is, and south of the High Street, Cottesmore Gardens or Victoria Road, are all popular addresses.

South Kensington is also a cultural destination – the Victoria & Albert, Science and Natural History Museums are a short walk from the Tube station – and up the road, opposite Hyde Park, is the Royal Albert Hall, famous for the Proms, among many other live performances.

Although Kensington is densely populated, there are also generous pockets of greenery. Notable is Kensington Gardens, which not only provides a quiet and reflective place to walk but is also the location of Kensington Palace, the official Royal residence of several members of the Royal Family including the Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge who recently had their Palace apartments redesigned by one of the UK's top interior designers.

Such a smart address warrants an equally sophisticated interior. Which is where we at interiordesigners.net come in. We are the UK's leading specialist interior designer agency, and can connect you to a local interior designer in Kensington. Whether you have a Regency house, a purpose-built – or converted – flat, a basement or loft conversion or have downsized to a centrally located apartment, we can put you in touch with one of our interior designers who will be able to deliver the interior you want.

Every designer we work with – in Kensington or otherwise – is vetted by us. We know them each individually, and we only work with the best. This close relationship with our designers, built up over many years, is why clients choose us.
